Marlene & Her Friends: Hopeful Canadian Arrivals
Despite import restrictions and COVID regulations, we were fortunate to have had multiple successful rescue missions from November last year through until April.
We were definitely looking forward to giving more of our precious dogs their happily ever after, come the end of Summer. And things were looking up further with the lifting of the US import ban.
We were finally going to be able to bring some of our dogs over.
So it came as a pretty big disappointment when we heard that Canada would now be closing their borders to us and our peers who operate in similar areas.
On June 28th, The Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s made the decision to ban the importation of dogs from countries with a high risk for rabies, starting from September 28th 2022.
Bringing rescues into a new country is difficult at the best of times, but the ban has made it impossible to bring dogs from China to Canada.
So, we decided to do the only thing that we could for now: take advantage of the small window of time we’d been given before the ban goes into place.
As of right now, we have about 21 dogs we're attempting to bring into the country before the ban.
And while a few of them have families ready and waiting, most of them are still looking for their forever families.
Here are some of the lucky dogs we hope to bring:
Truthfully, we need funds to help bring all of our dogs to Canada, but at the moment we’re starting with trying to fundraise for Marlene, one of the dogs we rescued last year.
Marlene was in very bad shape when she was rescued from an overcrowded and underfunded shelter.
Unable to get the proper care she needed there, Marlene had ended up contracting a skin disease.
She would have sat there, simply waiting to die, had she not been rescued by a kind young woman.
Lacking the resources to take care of Marlene, the young woman brought her to us.
We managed to restore her back to full health through medicinal baths, proper care and lots of love. You can see how drastic the before and after is below:
While Marlene’s been doing great at our shelter, she’s not easily adoptable in China due to her size, and the living space requirements that are enforced by the government.
So we were wanting to bring her to Canada to give her the happily ever after she deserves.
But in order to do that, we need to raise $2,700 USD, and we need to do it before the ban comes into place.
If anyone deserves to have a better life, it's Marlene. And this may be her last chance to find a forever home in Canada.
We’re desperate at the moment, we’re trying to bring as many dogs over as possible before Marlene and our other babies lose that chance.
Every single dollar contribution counts, so even a small amount is so appreciated and can go a long way. 💖
